Hattie Stewart for The Academy Awards

Hattie Stewart was commissioned by The Academy to create an artwork to promote the 2015 Oscars ceremony. Taking inspiration from the line ‘Imagine What’s Possible’, Hattie created a multi-layered Oscars universe with her heart characters, nodding to the various genres and categories of the awards. The work has already been seen as part of the nominations ceremony, keep an eye out for the artwork in the main awards ceremony on 22 February.

Anthony Burrill – Innocent Targets

Anthony Burrill - Innocent Targets

Anthony Burrill has created a series of posters with photographer Robbie Augspurger to bring attention to the 100,000 Americans shot every year as a result of gun violence. Burrill’s boldness and wit neatly highlight the fact that the terrorists and the zombies that feature in the targets across the 18,000 shooting ranges in the US are a distant fantasy from the reality that most of the time, the victims are our friends, neighbours or children.

Innocent Targets is launching at Protein on 12 November, with print sales of the poster targets going towards The Coalition To Stop Gun Violence. The project is an initiative of creative studio Banana and Associates.

Mat Maitland for Hunter Original AW14


Mat Maitland has created a new film for Hunter Original’s AW14 collection. Starring model Charlotte Wiggins and a host of beloved animals Mat’s film is a surreal interpretation of the Scottish Highlands. See the film here

Adrian Johnson – Tour de France 2014

Adrian Johnson for Tour de France

Adrian Johnson has been commissioned by the Tour de France and Transport for London to create posters to both commemorate and communicate the great cycling race, as it passes through London. The designs for the two posters can be seen across London as part of of the race wayfinding and other signage, as well as across the transport network. Widely praised as fresh and eye-catching but in the spirit of the great transport posters of the past, Adrian’s designs are also available to buy from the London Transport Museum shop.

Andy Rementer just closed an exhibition of new paintings and drawings at Mondo Cane in New York. Following on from last year’s painting show ‘I Wish I Knew‘, ‘Meet Me Later‘ continues to reveal snapshots of loneliness in the urban landscape; furtive moments of people trying to connect with eachother and the city.

Mat Maitland for Tate’s Matisse Exhibition

Mat Maitland was commissioned by Tate to create a trailer for their blockbuster exhibition of 2014, Matisse: The Cut-Outs. Working with animator Paul Plowman, Mat created a short that evokes Matisse’s working process later in life, when he began ‘carving in colour’ with scissors. The exhibition runs until 7 September.

Matt Furie for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah

Matt Furie - Animal Planet

Matt Furie was invited by Darren Aronofsky to be part of an exhibition to accompany the film director’s latest movie, Noah. Alongside FAILE, James Jean, and other artists, Matt created Animal Planet (above) for the exhibition, which launched in New York and is currently touring the United States. As Aronofsky explains, ‘I was curious what other minds would come up with if they tried to represent the original (Noah’s ark) story. So I decided to reach out to my favorite artists and ask each of them to return to Genesis and create something in his or her own medium. The response was overwhelming.’

Michael Jackson / Xscape


Big Active Creative Director and lifelong MJ fan, Mat Maitland, has created the cover for the new Michael Jackson album ‘Xscape’. Mat explains, “I really wanted to create an image of Michael that felt current, like a brand new album, rather than something that felt retrospective and it was important to me to evoke his magic and otherworldly presence.” The album, containing 8 previously unreleased songs produced by the likes of Timbaland and Stargate, is out on May 13.
