I recently worked with Microsoft on this image for Zune Originals, I’m calling it “Spirit of Metal”. I wanted to do a twist on eastern deities which have many arms, often depicted performing ‘mudra’ or sacred hand gestures. So the “Spirit of Metal” plays an electric guitar and of course makes the devils horns hand sign.

Klaus Haapaniemi seems to have Christmas store windows wrapped up this year. As well as the Tokyo Isetan work we already posted last week, here’s some samples from his work for Printemps department store in Paris.

Following last year’s “I Love” collaboration, here’s a new book from Genevieve Gauckler once again designed and published by Eugène & Pauline. It’s a large format, 12 page newspaper, hand silk screened on 120gr paper. There are only 50 of these in the world, so better get your skates on if you want one.

Parra’s rounding off another intensely busy year with this fantastic collaboration with Brooklyn based jewelery designers ITSNONAME. The pendants are comprised of .925 solid sterling silver and measure approximately 1” (2.54cm) in diameter with a  30” (76.2cm) sterling silver chain. Each unit comes with an exclusive printed tissue paper in a display-ready box. Only 50 pendants are being produced, retailing at $300 USD.

I wanted to create something quite mythical and dark. The forest theme, featuring black animals with tiny bits of color, I thought worked quite well for the purpose. I’ve always considered Isetan as the most stylish department store in Japan so was very happy to be involved in the project.

While I was in Oslo last May I met the very talented Kjetil Wold, Creative Director of Anti, the Norwegian design agency. Kam Tang has since been working with them on a project for Epos Visa cards in Japan. Banks of the world take note, there are no more excuses for issuing those uninspiring and poorly designed pieces of plastic.

Mat Maitland has just completed a 10 page editorial for the December/January issue of Paris based fashion magazine l’Officiel, out now. Shoes and bags from the Spring 2010 collections are juxtaposed with disembodied body parts, animals, pianos, clouds and glossy pop symbols to create an element of surprise and the unknown. Audacious and abstract in spirit, his work for the magazine is a powerful and addictive experience. See More
