Jasper Goodall for PlayStation 3

Jasper Goodall has been invited to create an interactive illustration for Sony’s PS3 platform. As Jasper explains, I had been meaning to create a piece of moving illustration for some time and the PS3 platform provided the ideal space to try this out. Although I was aware that the guys at Studio Output would have to work in PS3 coding language, I wanted to provide them with an animation to demonstrate how my theme should move, which they then had to dismantle and reconstruct in the PS3 code.

Jasper devised the dynamic theme as part of a new feature for PlayStation 3 called The Studio, where users can purchase themes from a range of graphic artists and illustrators. PS3 users can view and purchase the themes from within the console’s PlayStation Store.

The Game By Das Pop

Das-Pop-Album

The new album by Das Pop is released this week. ‘The Game’ is the second campaign for the Belgian four-piece to be designed by Big Active. “The cover fuses graphic elements in a way that echoes the playful nature of the music,” says art director Mat Maitland, “with the cover almost appearing to be thrown together by the juggler depicted on the sleeve”. You can see more of the project here.

The band’s frontman Bent Van Looy visited London recently and came into Big Active to chat with Mat about the artwork in a feature for Cobra TV. While he was here he also caught up with Will Sweeney who directed the video for the title track (see last weeks post). You can watch the interview with Bent, Mat and Will here.

Siggi Eggertsson for Apparat Organ Quartet

siggi_apparat

Siggi Eggertsson has won the award for Best Cover at the Icelandic Music Awards. The project, for band Apparat Organ Quartet, involved Siggi creating fifteen images by hand-layering vinyl foil. As he explains, Each member of the band represents a different social group, so I made each of them a different shield, then I made shields for each of the nine songs on the album, reflecting the subject of each song. Siggi also used his own typeface, Common Sans, in the cover.

You can see more images from the project on Siggi’s recently updated website.
