David Foldvari at The Outsiders
Last night David Foldvari’s first solo exhibition opened at London’s The Outsider’s. The exhibition, called Trouble, features both large and small-scale drawings. The focus of this exhibition is on David’s interest in the self-conscious within the social context and the result is a continuation of his eyeless men placed in classical portraiture poses.
The exhibition runs until 30th July.

David Foldvari Nabokov Covers
These books are not easy reading and need some investigation to get beneath the surface. For ‘Invitation To A Beheading’ the idea for the illustration is centered around the ‘violin in a void’ statement, which appears quite early in the text, combined with the prison / isolation theme that runs throughout the book. The violin is representative of the main character, who is, in a sense, imprisoned by his own past.
The illustration for ‘The Eye’ is fairly self explanatory – it is about lost identity, and the events that lead to it.
These two new Penguin editions, illustrated by David Foldvari and designed by Pentagram, are now available from all good bookshops.

Advice To Illustration Students
David Foldvari offers some carefully chosen words of insight in his personal blog. If you’re studying illustration or hope to take up working professionally – TAKE HEED – stop staring blindly at what everyone else is currently creating and start absorbing the world around you for inspiration. As David points out in his piece “…your tutors have a responsibility to educate you properly, and if they’re making you reference nothing but contemporary illustration, they are failing massively. It’s your degree, you should demand more…” Smooth words David – our sentiments exactly.
