Kam Tang and Darren Wall a.k.a Wallzo recently collaborated on Wallpaper* Handmade. It was the magazine’s most ambitious project to date, an exhibition to celebrate craftsmanship and design. Kam and Wallzo were asked to create an identity for the event, the solution consisted of an intricately drawn seal utilised in numerous different ways around the show. The invitations featured an embossed version of the seal on a specially commissioned handmade paper, while an ink stamp version was used to decorate other literature. Finally, the pair produced a unique triptych which hung in the exhibition featuring abstract forms representing raw materials and working processes. Loops is a bi-annual collaboration between Domino Records and Faber and Faber. The journal offers a platform for today’s exceptional writers to engage with subjects, individuals and issues that colour all corners of the pop music world. Kam Tang’s cover illustration, Art Directed by Wallzo (aka Darren Wall), is inspired by Paul Morley’s piece on Michael Jackson’s life, and in particular the rivalry between Jackson and Prince during the eighties, when both were at the height of their powers.

While I was in Oslo last May I met the very talented Kjetil Wold, Creative Director of Anti, the Norwegian design agency. Kam Tang has since been working with them on a project for Epos Visa cards in Japan. Banks of the world take note, there are no more excuses for issuing those uninspiring and poorly designed pieces of plastic.
