Alfie Dwyer makes films that are short, surreal voyages into absurd and beautiful worlds. Much of his influence comes from lucid dreaming; he likes to think of his videos as brief dips into these passing worlds.

The disorienting feeling of passing from one dream/space to another is emulated in the twisting and fast-moving nature of Dwyer’s animations, playing with images in a way that takes people by surprise. Absurdity and comedy also feature widely in his work: he enjoys making people laugh, using images that strike people as unusual or absurd.

Dwyer’s recent projects include looping films for Adult Swim to promote the 5th season of the Eric Andre show, a mind-bending experimental collaboration between Dwyer, Timeboy, Thundercat, and Flying Lotus to celebrate the first ever Brainfeeder Grammy win for Best Progressive R&B Album, and animation and direction for Sad Night Dynamite’s ‘Smoke Hole’ and ‘Krunk’ single releases.

Dwyer is currently in the early stages of work on his debut short film, working title How To Walk Through Walls: a combination of street performance, comedy, and surreal animation, aiming to teach the audience how to walk through walls.

His images have also been featured in various magazines including Interview, Self Service, Dazed Beauty, V, King Kong, Le Monde, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue Japan, Paper and Vanity Fair.

“The artistic heir to Warholian tradition, recalibrated in the digital age, Mat’s work blurs the boundary between high and low culture. His collages are pop, playful, cerebral and surreal. They’re steeped in nostalgia in as much as they reference future worlds, as witty commentaries on contemporary culture.” (Dazed Beauty)

“Maitland’s digital renderings are bursting with energy. They make the eyes skip and the mind race with their unusual juxtapositions, as he pits the futuristic against the nostalgic and the phantasmagorical against the familiar. Unusually, a quiet cerebral quality sits comfortably alongside palpable accents of pulp melodrama.” (Sotheby’s)

Mat is also creative director of Big Active Design where he has art directed and designed music campaigns and images for Michael Jackson, Prince, Beck, Goldfrapp, Basement Jaxx, Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Lana Del Rey, Galantis and Mark Ronson among many others.

Kam’s specific strength lies in his vector drawings; he has the rare ability to produce line work that feels warm and human. Such skills have found their way onto premium product, packaging and branding work, as well as album covers for The Chemical Brothers and Gnarls Barkley. Kam has exhibited widely, with his work for Herman Miller in particular being kept in the collection of the Smithsonian Design Museum – Cooper Hewitt.

Burrill frequently collaborates with other forward-thinking creatives across disciplines spanning music, architecture, curation, education and more; pushing his traditional discipline of choice, letterpress printing, into bold new territories.

Words, gentle humour, no-nonsense communication and people are at the heart of Burrill’s practice and his distinctive brand of upbeat messaging: its core DNA is one created through a longstanding passion for creativity without limitations, the power of simplicity and an innate curiosity about the world and people in it.

Burrill was born in Littleborough, Lancashire. After studying Graphic Design at Leeds Polytechnic he completed an MA in Graphic Design at the Royal College of Art, London. He now lives and works on the Isle of Oxney, Kent.
